Mac Millan had now reached
the Desert of True wishes
Where even the shifting sands
made one alert and cautious!
The caravan suddenly stopped
and the chatting gypsies froze
Mac Millan could see nothing
only a great feeling arose.
And then he felt it and knew why
a feeling of rising chill
Fear had taken over the mind
and everything stood still!
The sands were not shifting
the air getting dense
The desert was coming alive
and the situation tense!
And suddenly as fast as they
could the gypsies bolted back
Leaving their camels and tents
and even their food sacks!
In all this commotion curiosity
had overcome fear
Why were the gypsies leaving
behind their precious and dear!
So the gypsies retreated and he
advanced forward
Into a desert with legends made
and secrets unheard!
But never had he had it easy
and never would he
For soon a sandstorm came
over and he could hardly see!
He was soon buried in
a great sea of sand
Buried totally alone
in a vast alien land!
But he did open his eyes
and found it really dark
The light of the desert no more
in a contrast completely stark!
Then he realised it was
a chamber very ill-lit
A chamber so large
that an entire caravan could fit!
But in the center lay on a
table a dusty old lamp
Looking all rusted and
smelling really damp!
Treading very cautiously
up to the center table
He picked up the lamp and
rubbed it as in Alladin's fable!
But instead of giant genie
'Mac Millan' himself appeared
A reflection of what he truly
wanted and had always feared!
The reflection asked him,
"What do you truly desire?
I know who is truthful
and who is a liar"!
Mac Millan answered,
"All i wanted was lots of money
and the great power to
rule the lives of many"!
The reflection asked,
"You joined the journey
of the gypsies for power
and lots of money"!
"Yes i did do that
so will you grant my desire,
it burns within me like
a great big wild fire!
The reflection nodded
and waved his hand
And before Mac knew it
he was again buried in sand!
But now when he opened his
eyes,blurred was his vision
Gypsies smiling faces danced
before him like mirage illusions!
But they were very real
and they had come back
For their lovely camels,tents
and food sacks!
But they had come further
and found him in the sand
They had come back for him
in this vast alien land!
No money, power was to be seen
but these he did not miss
For with a smile on his lips he
knew the desert had granted his True wish!
